Quest For The Golden Scepter

By Seth Cowan

There once was a huge city, but no one in the city was happy. An evil king named John McDaniel ruled the city. There was a resistance, but they couldnÕt do much because they didnÕt have enough people to help them. Two men wanted to do something so badly that they were going to overthrow the king. The king needed a special golden scepter to truly be the king, but the evil king never had it. The king just pretended he had it so he could be the king. The two men that wanted to overthrow the king knew where the golden scepter was, but it was guarded by a family of giant spiders.

The two men were named Darius Kanderson and Henry Elmer. Darius had a plate helmet and chain mail. Henry Elmer didnÕt have a helmet but he had all chain mail. They set out on their adventure to the spider lair, taking along some spider poison with them.

The spider lair was in a far away forest, but they first had to get past a river. The river was the biggest river in the whole kingdom, so it was going to be hard to cross. They couldnÕt cross without making a boat. Darius and Henry made only a raft because it was quicker. The raft was weak, and would have been broken in half, but they used strong ropes so it held together, although they lost some of the spider poison. The spiders are very hard to kill without the poison. After they passed the river they gathered the rest of the supplies. They had only to find the spider lair in the forest, but the forest was very dangerous and it would be hard to find.

The forest had a creek and they could get water there, but a lot of the dangerous animals got water there too. They got as much water as they could carry because they didnÕt want to stop again. They found the spider lair in the center of the forest. They went in very cautiously. They saw more spiders than they had ever seen in their life. Since there were so many spiders, they decided to light the lair on fire. They put water around the lair so the fire wouldnÕt start a forest fire. When they lit the lair on fire, tons of spiders came running out. Darius and Henry were glad they didnÕt have to fight all of those spiders because they probably wouldnÕt win. When all the spiders were gone, they put out the fire with water. They looked through the remains of the lair. They saw a little hole in the ground; they looked in it and found a pile of jewels along with it the golden scepter.

They grabbed the golden scepter and started back to the city.  This time they built a better boat to cross the river, but it took a long time. They got to the city and called a meeting for the resistance. They showed the other members the golden scepter. One of the members said the king would just kill them for the scepter. Darius said the scepter had a special power and the king would be scared of it. Henry said, ÒWe wonÕt know until we try.Ó They decided to attack the following day.

Darius got a big crowd of people to support them, because they showed them they had the golden scepter. They busted the castle gates and started over running the castle. The Resistance was doing better in the fight than the KingÕs soldiers. The King came out to fight with his soldiers, but when he saw the resistance had the golden scepter, he became scared and got on his horse to ride away. Darius and Henry saw him ride away. They got on their horses and chased after the king. Henry had a bow and shot the kingÕs horse, and the king fell with his horse. They caught up with the king and captured him. They rode back and showed the soldiers that they had the King.

All of the soldiers surrendered. Darius and Henry ruled over the city and everyone liked the new king, who was the head of the resistance. John McDaniel who was the former king became a farmer for the king. Darius Kanderson was the head of the military and Henry Elmer was the head of the archers.
