A Great dog

By Clara

I tucked myself into my cozy bed and heard the lonely howl of a tireless pup. I went to sleep that night with eager dreams. The following morning I asked my mom for a dog. She said maybe and gave me that Òdog lectureÓ about owning a dog and how you have to feed them and pick up their turds. I was disappointed and knew that she would never allow me to get a dog again.

Two days later, my mom asked me to sit down and talk. I thought, ÒOh no, another one of those talks about cleaning my room.Ó Instead, she showed me a picture of a cute little white dog with big ears. She said that this could be my new pup. I couldnÕt believe it; a dog of my own. Wow! Mom said, ÒHer name is Sophia and she is a very sweet dog the adoption place says.Ó  Two days later I found myself in the back of our car driving to Redding California. We got there early and went shopping apart from my will. Thirty minutes later we went to the Petco animal place. The lady there said that they were late by fifteen minutes. . Fifteen minutes went by.  Then twenty. Then thirty. By that time, I was losing my patience and bored to death. Thirty – five minute had gone by and a truck with four or five kennels drove up to the store.

I forced a walk to the door of the store and walk to the window. A few dog s came out then a cute little white dog with big ears came out with her tail between her legs. At first she growled but then figured we did not want to harm her. She sniffed us and let us stroke her terribly soft coat. We signed the forms and everything then drove down to castle crags. We took a long hike on the PCT (A.K.A Pacific Crest Trail). Eight miles for that dogÉ Mostly up hill. Hardcore doggy.

We went on our way after that passed Shasta. Through the pass and back down to Ashland. I was excited and hope Sophia would enjoy her new home.  The car pulled into the drive and aroused Sophia. We lead her to the back yard and let her loose. She loved it. Bouncing and rolling around like a puppy(which she was). We played around and I thought Òwow, my dog.  Friends dog but my own dog.Ó Òman, I love this dog.Ó

For Roscoe. Sophia will never escape as you did.
