Do you enjoy the seasons? Do you need light in the winter? In the following lesson, you will be making comparisons and generalizations based on the latitudes and amount of daylight in three American Cities. Which city would you choose to live in and why? Step 1: Click here to download the Sunrise Worksheet to desktop folder. Step 2: Click here for this very interesting site to compute the sunrise and sunset data. Fill in the table for Ashland, Honolulu and Fairbanks. Step 3: Once you have filled the sunrise/sunset data, using the calculator under the Apple, calculate the amount of daylight for each city, for winter and for summer and fill in the bottom section . Step 4: Highlight the bottom section with its data. Go to "insert", go to "chart" and explore what you can do... Step 5: Open and use Microsoft word to respond to the following questions. How does latitude affect the difference in daylight as you travel north or south? How does latitude affect differences in daylight throughout the seasons? What would you predict for the spring and fall equinox? Where would you chose to live and why, based on your data? Step 6: Group Discussion, Debrief...
