Spelling correctly is a long process for most people, taking many years to master most commonly used words. Even then, we as adult spellers often refer to dictionaries for help, spell checkers on computers or other people to edit our work. Some research suggests that we are born one of two ways: spellers and non-spellers! We're going to work on helping all Blenders become good spellers. Many of them already are great intuitive spellers. Parents, please expect to see a spelling list come home usually on Thursday. I will have done a thorough lesson on the words that day. Over the weekend and the following days, help your child practice spelling these words. She/he should write them as well as say the letters at least once or twice a day. You can ask your child about the phonograms which are used as well as other spelling clues that we talked about in our lesson. We'll have a test on the next Wednesday. I have found that those children who practice at home are most successful. This is also a first step into homework beyond reading time. Finding a regular place and time to practice each day will be a great step in preparing your child for more serious homework in the future. We won't take much class time to practice as this can be easily done at home. We'll use our valuable time for other purposes. If you have any questions, please stop by to chat, write or call me.Thanks for your help. Barbara Barbara.Heyerman@ashland.k12.or.us
